I’m Waiting For The Punchline

ACT Transport Spokesman MP Penny Webster today applauded Green MP Jeanette Fitzsimons for her excellent sense of humour.

“Ms Fitzsimons’ private member’s bill – Road Traffic Reduction Bill – must be a joke,” Penny Webster said.

“I cannot believe that Ms Fitzsimons, who lives in the Coromandel wilderness, would have the gall to seriously tell New Zealanders that they should live in walking distance of a public transport system.

“New Zealanders like their cars, and the Greens need to accept that fact. The car is here to stay. People will continue to live where they want, and will rightfully expect money to be spent on roading.

“Rather than wasting Parliament’s time with silly bills, the Greens should be looking at funding roads through valid means such as tolling.

“I am delighted that Ms Fitzsimons has such a sense of humour, but disappointed that her little joke is going to waste taxpayers’ money and Parliament’s time,” Penny Webster said.
