Hobbs Must Reassure TVNZ News Staff

Thursday 10th May 1901 Penny Webster Media Release -- Other

ACT Broadcasting Spokesman Penny Webster today called on the Minister of Broadcasting Marian Hobbs to reassure TVNZ News staff that there will be no more political interference in TVNZ.

“Staff are concerned that TVNZ Chairman Ross Armstrong and others have brought their journalistic integrity into disrepute. At a meeting today in Auckland, news staff considered walking out in support of Mr Paul Cutler over this matter.

“This is an appalling state of affairs and must not be allowed to continue. The Minister must state publicly that she has full confidence in the TVNZ News staff, and must make an unequivocal statement that there will not be any further political interference in the day-to-day running of TVNZ.

“I also call on the Minister to express her personal confidence in the integrity of these staff. This is absolutely necessary, for the employees, and for the New Zealand public,” Penny Webster said.
