Inadequacies Of State Sector Act Key Issue In Lashlie Case
“The key issue highlighted in the State Services Commission report on the Celia Lashlie case is being missed” claims New Zealand First Education Spokesperson, Hon Brian Donnelly MP
“What the report demonstrates are fundamental flaws in the way we operate our public service.”
Celia Lashlie was not an employee of Special Education Services. Nor was she sacked by them. The contract with a private company was terminated by SES because of her remarks.
The report shows she was treated as an employee of SES in day-to-day matters but as an employee of the contractors firm in dealing with her public statements.
“How can an ethos of public service be promoted in a system where much of its delivery is through contracted profit-making private companies”, asked Mr Donnelly “ That is the heart of the matter”.
