Tribute to Duncan MacIntyre
Prime Minister Helen Clark said today that former Deputy Prime Minister Duncan MacIntyre had made a distinguished contribution in a long career of public service to his country.
Duncan MacIntyre served in the army during the Second World War, and as a territorial soldier. He served as an MP from 1960 to 1984, with a break between 1972 and 1975. His ministerial posts included Maori Affairs, Island Affairs, Agriculture, Fisheries, Lands, and Forests. Between 1981 and 1984 he was Deputy Prime Minister.
"Duncan MacIntyre's contribution was distinguished. Amongst Maori, he is warmly remembered as a conscientious and hard-working Minister of Maori Affairs.
"On behalf of the government and the Labour Party, I extend our condolences to the MacIntyre family," Helen Clark said.
