Northland MP welcomes Parry inquiry
National's Northland MP John Carter welcomed this morning's Health select committee decision to launch an inquiry, subject to agreeing on the terms of reference, into issues surrounding disgraced Northland gynaecologist Dr Graham Parry.
Mr Carter's comments follow the majority of the select committee members voting in support of an inquiry, despite Labour saying an inquiry wasn't needed.
"Today's announcement is a victory for Northland. It will be music to the ears of the women involved with the Dr Graham Parry case. They deserve to be heard in an official forum.
"Throughout the process I have been working closely with committee members National's Dr Lynda Scott and Dr Paul Hutchison, the Greens' Sue Bradford and the Alliance's Phillida Bunkle.
"The support for an inquiry goes to show that politicians can work across party lines for the benefit of Northlanders. It was disappointing however that the Minister of Health, Annette King, recommended against an inquiry," Mr Carter said.
