Questions to Ministers

1. Rt Hon JENNY SHIPLEY to the Prime Minister: What outcome was she trying to achieve when she said on Monday 24 September that statutory management is a "very viable" option for Air New Zealand, which influenced a fall in the Air New Zealand B share price to 15 cents?

2. CHRIS CARTER to the Prime Minister: When will New Zealand respond to the United Nations international appeal for humanitarian relief work in Afghanistan, announced by the United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan on 27 September?

3. Hon RICHARD PREBBLE to the Prime Minister: When she made her statement on 25 September, in relation to Mum and Dad Air New Zealand shareholders, that "I'd recommend they hang on to them because I am absolutely convinced that Air New Zealand has a viable future.", what effect did she expect it to have on the share price of Air New Zealand?

4. SUE KEDGLEY to the Minister of Transport: Now that the Government has agreed to buy back the Auckland rail network, will it negotiate the return to public ownership of the rest of the national rail track; if not, why not?

Hon Dr NICK SMITH to the Minister for the Environment: Will the Government reconsider the Resource Management Amendment Bill in light of the statement, highlighted by the Ministerial Panel on Business Compliance Costs, from Chapman Tripp, that "The Bill as reported back will be even more a disappointment to those waiting for relief from the costs and uncertainties of the Act. Indeed, the changes may make the resource management process more costly and uncertain, with greater delays, rather than going any way to reduce these costs."?
