United Future Calls For A Payment For Childcare

United Future Calls For A Payment For Childcare In The Home

United Future, the pro-family party, is calling on the Government to introduce a child care allowance for parents who care for under five year olds in the home.

United Future leader, Hon Peter Dunne, says that too often the work of a parent caring for young children at home is overlooked.

"Yet the benefits to society of stable, loving care from parents are huge, and should be recognised."

"The Government already makes substantial payments to subsidise the costs of all-day crèches and childcare centres, which we fully support and would like to see extended."

"But we also think it is time to extend the same recognition to parents who care for their children at home, because they deserve it."

"The present 'one size fits all' approach fails to recognise the contribution parents at home make to the care of their children."

"United Future is serious about standing up for families and communities, and will not compromise on that," he says.

Mr Dunne says full details of the homecare allowance will be released when United Future launches its full Family Policy.
