Acting Prime Minister Jim Anderton says there is always controversy when the Higher Salaries Commission sets MPs’ salaries.

“No one is ever satisfied with the Commission’s determination, but no one is satisfied with any other method of setting MPs’ salaries either.

“I don’t have a personal view on whether this year’s determination is appropriate. We have an independent system of pay fixing, and it should remain independent,” Jim Anderton said.
