Court Closure Puts Cosgrove On Trial

“The closing of the Rangiora Court by the Labour Alliance Coalition Government raises a question that we in the Waimakariri cannot ignore. Is this the best representation in Parliament Waimak can expect or is there someone else who is more up to the job?” said Rangiora resident MP Ron Mark today.

“As a local, who also happens to be an opposition MP, I have to ask myself if the current government thinks so little of its own MP, Clayton Cosgrove, that it does not bother to tell him of the Ministerial decisions it is making for Waimak and even worse, sees no reason to consult with him as to the effects these decisions will have on our community, then pray tell me, why should anyone in Waimakariri vote for him?

“Here we have a Labour government with a Labour Member who is supposed to be representing us in Parliament and yet again he tells us that he knew nothing! From where I sit it seems that he is clearly held in such poor regard by his own caucus colleagues and Cabinet Members that they just blithely ignore him.

“The dumping of a Youth Correction Facility in the centre of Mandeville and now the closing of our court without so much as a “by your leave” to their own man, who is supposed to be heard on local issues is bizarre. I could understand if our local MP was National! I would expect a Labour government to play such tactics in order to undermine that person. But this tells me only one thing. Helen’s Ministers clearly have no time at all, for the Mike Moore prodigy and that spells more trouble for the Waimakariri, “ said Ron Mark.

Ron Mark stated that “Waimakariri needs an MP who regardless of their party affiliation is respected. Someone, whom at best government would seek to consult on issues that affect us or who at worst, is so feared by the government of the day that they would not dare to “not” consult.”

“I hate to say it, but there is more to being an effective representative for those of us who live in Waimak than simply being Mike Moore's mate and it is time we the jury started thinking about that” concluded Ron Mark MP.
