ACT leader Richard Prebble, in response to media inquiries today about ACT's rise in the opinion polls, said this confirms ACT's own polling.

"ACT's decision to campaign positively by putting forward practical alternatives to the two old parties, is paying off. ACT is also benefiting from the recognition that we have been an effective Opposition," Mr Prebble said.

"But media commentators who suggest that National should be written off, are far too early. There's a long way till November and National has a formidable record for campaigning.

"What is particularly significant is the rise in support for all third parties - except the Greens. I've always said voters will use their list vote to support the party that most represents their aspirations.

"ACT is the party for those who believe in freedom, choice, free enterprise and less government in their lives.

"Likewise the Alliance, which advocates more government control, continues to get the support of those who believe in larger government, despite the party's internal difficulties.

"The interesting thing to watch is whether the Greens' bubble has burst. Staging Pakeha protests at Waitangi seems to be the action of a party that is out of touch with New Zealand. It's ironic that Sue Bradford and friends were demonstrating against a Prime Minister they claim to support, while ACT MP Donna Awatere-Huata took the PM's hand to lead her through the demonstrators," Mr Prebble said.
