Another Uncertain School Year

Monday 18 Feb 2002 Donna Awatere Huata Press Releases -- Education

New Zealand children face another year of uncertainty after Trevor Mallard failed to present teachers with a satisfactory pay deal, ACT Education Spokesman MP Donna Awatere Huata said today.

"Mr Mallard has created this situation by ignoring the real issues. He pretended there was no teacher shortage crisis. He got the school rolls for this year completely wrong and then refused to admit it.

"His arrogance appalled many teachers who otherwise may have voted differently.

"Today's announcement should come as a shock to nobody. It is, however, a huge blow for every New Zealand family," Mrs Awatere Huata said.
