Hawkes Bay ACT MP Donna Awatere Huata today welcomed news that police have laid charges against a man for the abduction, sexual abuse and murder of Teresa Cormack fourteen years ago.

"Whatever the outcome of any eventual trial, I congratulate the police for never giving up.

"The murder of six-year-old Teresa shocked Hawkes Bay, and our community has not been the same since June 19, 1987.

"All of the police staff who have worked on this case, and those who continue to work on it, have the gratitude of Hawkes Bay residents and parents around New Zealand," Mrs Awatere Huata said today.
