ACT Supports PM's Tough Line on Zimbabwe
ACT leader Richard Prebble has written to the Prime Minister offering the ACT Party's support for any sanctions against Zimbabwe.
"The ACT Party has been pressing the Labour government to take a tough line against Robert Mugabe for more than a year," Mr Prebble said.
"There's overwhelming evidence of voter intimidation in the Zimbabwe elections. The European Community and the United States have already taken action against Zimbabwe, so there's no reason for New Zealand to delay just because some African countries are not willing to take steps.
"I've written to the Prime Minister so Labour can know that it has the numbers in the House and won't be held to ransom by the Greens or the Alliance.
"ACT has actually provided Labour with a majority on several issues, ranging from free trade to the war in Afghanistan, and now were willing to do it on Zimbabwe," Mr Prebble said.
