Not The Type Of Immigrant New Zealand Needs

Not The Type Of Immigrant New Zealand Needs – Peters

“The latest imprisonment for serious fraud of Mr Bejay Nandan alias Vijay Nandan, Birjay Nand, Vijay Nand, Bijay Prasade and Vijay Prasade, by a Wellington District Court Judge last Friday, for fraud, highlights the failure of the Immigration Service and Immigration Minister, Lianne Dalziel, to come to grips with her responsibilities,” claimed Rt Hon Winston Peters, New Zealand First Leader and Member of Tauranga.

“For the last two years I have been asking the Minister to intervene and send this character back to Fiji from where he hails, as his appalling record of offending, indicates he is totally unsuitable to be living in New Zealand.”

“He entered New Zealand under somewhat vague circumstances with a number of offences recorded in Fiji and was not sent home after being found guilty of shoplifting in New Zealand and has gone on to rip-off a large number of decent New Zealanders with his endless fraudulent activities”, said Mr Peters.

“The number of small business owners, building supply companies and private individuals allegedly defrauded of significant sums through dishonesty and cheating, requires the Minister of Immigration to carry out her responsibilities to ensure he cannot continue offending, after his release from prison.”

“Given that the Minister of Immigration said in December 2000, in answer to a question I put to her in Parliament; “I balance the nature of the conviction and all relevant circumstances including the public interest” when determining if an individual should remain in New Zealand, how many more New Zealanders must she see ripped off before she does what New Zealanders expect her to do, “ questioned Mr Peters.

“New Zealanders deserve to be protected from the antics of habitual criminals who prey on the innocent and desperate among us through fraudulent trickery and deceit. Those holding limited residency in New Zealand, who repeatedly offend in such a serious manner, have no right to stay on in our country,” concluded Mr Peters.
