A Great Day For New Zealand's Film Industry
New Zealand has always had great talent in the film industry and I am pleased that at today's Oscar awards many of these people received the recognition that they well deserve, says National Party Leader Bill English.
"Peter Jackson can rightfully feel extremely proud for the role he has played in bringing such talent into the international spotlight. New Zealand could not have a better ambassador.
"It also must be a proud day for the family of Kiwi computer graphics guru Andrew Adamson for the role he played in Shrek winning Best Animated Feature Film. I know if my children had any say they also would have chosen this as a clear winner.
"What is particularly exciting is that there are still two more series of the Trilogy of Lord of the Rings so I am sure there will be even more Oscars to come yet. New Zealand's place in the film world has been well and truly established.
"New Zealand is a very special place and can I say thanks to everyone involved with Lord of the Rings for their part in making sure the rest of the world has had the chance to see just our special we are," says Mr English.
