Hobbs Has Got To Be Joking

Broadcasting Minister Marian Hobbs has got to be joking in her appointment of Dame Ann Hercus, says National's Broadcasting spokesperson Katherine Rich.

"After all the criticism and concern from the industry over political appointments, the Minister has appointed yet another Labour ally, former Cabinet Minister Dame Ann Hercus, onto the TVNZ Board.

"Even more questionable is the fact that she has no broadcasting experience and that she has been actively involved in corporate fundraising for the Labour Party.

"Since being in government Marian Hobbs has methodically placed party-friendly people on each and every broadcasting-related body. Is this what Helen Clark meant by new standards of openness and accountability in Government?"
