National MP Ready To Fight For Wigram

3 April 2002

"Jim Anderton's decision to walk away from yet another political party proves he is a loner who does only what suits him," says National MP and Wigram candidate Alec Neill.

Mr Neill made this comment after today's announcement by Jim Anderton that he is breaking away from the Alliance and forming a new party to contest the next election.

"Jim Anderton was elected to Parliament as an Alliance MP and it is arrogant in the extreme for him to take the voters in Wigram for granted.

"Jim, Sandra and their ragtag bunch of hanger's on are relying on the good people of Wigram to extend their - already over-expired - political use-by dates."

However, Alec Neill says Wigram voters can send Jim Anderton a clear message that his ego is out of control by voting for the National MP at the next election.

"I'm an experienced MP who is ready, willing and able to represent Wigram.

"I have been working very hard in the electorate in recent times building a strong team around me to contest this seat for National.

"I am looking forward to taking on Jim Anderton - whatever party he ends up standing for," Mr Neill concluded.
