Has Jim Anderton Joined Social Credit?

Jim Anderton's announcement today doesn't answer the really interesting question - "what will happen to the Democrat Party which is part of the Alliance?" ACT leader Richard Prebble said.

"Over 75 percent of those who Mr Anderton claims support him are active members of the Democrats, which used to be Social Credit. It doesn't follow that they've agreed to leave the Democrats," Mr Prebble said.

"It's interesting that Mr Anderton says he intends to start a new political `movement' rather than `party'. That sounds like Social Credit jargon. They used to claim to be not a party but a movement.

"It will be interesting to see how voters respond to Mr Anderton's move from Labour, to New Labour, to the Alliance and now Social Credit," Mr Prebble said.
