Finance and Expenditure (Julian Kersey, SC-FE@parliament.govt.nz)
The committee met on Wednesday, 10 April. It heard evidence on the financial review of New Zealand Post Limited and the Securities Markets and Institutions Bill.

The committee will next meet on 17 April from 10.00 am to 1.00 pm in Room G.006, Parliament House. It will hear evidence from New Zealand Post Limited on its financial review from 10.00 am to 11.00 am. This will be open to the public. The committee will hear evidence on the Securities Markets and Institutions Bill from 11.00 am to 11.30 am. This will also be open to the public. It will then consider the Taxation (Relief, Refunds and Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill.

Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade (David Sanders, SC-FD@parliament.govt.nz)
Today the committee is hearing evidence on the international treaty examination of the Kyoto Protocol. A further hearing is scheduled for next Wednesday afternoon.

Government Administration (Lesley Ferguson, SC-GA@parliament.govt.nz)
The committee meets next Wednesday and Thursday in Wellington to continue hearing evidence on the Responsible Gambling Bill. It will travel to Christchurch on Friday for further hearings.

On Thursday morning the Chief Executive of the Museum of New Zealand ¡V Te Papa Tongarewa is to give evidence on the museum¡¦s 2000/01 financial review. The committee will also consider the New Zealand Fire Service Commission¡¦s financial review and the petition of Tony Swain and 3070 others.

Justice and Electoral (Louise Sparrer, SC-JE@parliament.govt.nz)
This week the committee met on 10 April. It continued consideration of the inquiry into the 2001 local elections and the Prostitution Reform Bill. The committee also heard evidence from the Legal Services Agency on its financial review for 2000/01. The main issues raised during the hearing were:

„h the range of services provided by community law centres (There was concern over the fact that some law centres provide both advocacy and legal representation while others do not.)
„h exemptions provided by Law Societies for community law centres
„h funding of community law centres
„h the agency¡¦s ongoing research into unmet legal needs
„h trends in legal aid expenditure, in particular the variation between regions (The committee was also interested in the cost of appeals on legal aid and the breakdown of legal aid applicants by ethnicity.)
„h legal aid eligibility and cost recovery.

Next week the committee will meet on 17 April to continue its consideration of the financial review of the Legal Services Agency and the inquiry into the 2001 local elections. Between 11.00 am and 11.30 am the committee will hear a submission on behalf of Mayor John Terris¡¦s City Vision team. During this hearing, the meeting will be open to the public in Room G.005 in Parliament House.

Local Government and Environment (Marie Alexander, SC-LGE@parliament.govt.nz)
The committee has been hearing submissions on the Local Government Bill this week.

Maori Affairs (Marcus Ganley, SC-MA@parliament.govt.nz)
The committee will next meet on Thursday, 18 April. At this meeting it will further consider the Maori Television Service Bill and hear submissions on its inquiry into the Crown Forestry Rental Trust. Submissions will be heard on Thursday from 11.00 am to 1.00 pm and include:

Primary Production (Bob Bunch, SC-PP@parliament.govt.nz)
The committee met on Thursday, 11 April to further consider the Land Transfer and Cadastral Survey Legislation Bill and its inquiry into sustainable forestry management.

Next week, on 18 April, the committee will further consider the inquiry into sustainable forestry management.

Regulations Review (Andrew Fieldsend, SC-RR@parliament.govt.nz)
The committee will next meet on Wednesday, 17 April, when it will consider a complaint relating to the Land Transport Rule 32006/1: Frontal Impact. There will be a public hearing of evidence from the complainants at 3.15 pm in Room G.010, Parliament House.

Standing Orders (David Bagnall)
The committee will meet on Thursday, 18 April, to hear further evidence on its review of Standing Orders (the rules of the House).

Transport and Industrial Relations (Lyn Main, SC-TI@parliament.govt.nz)
The committee continues to hear evidence on the Health and Safety in Employment Amendment Bill. It met in Auckland on 10 and 11 April to hear submitters from the Auckland region.

The committee is next meeting in Parliament House on Wednesday, 17 April to hear evidence on the Land Transport Rule: Frontal Impact 2001 and to hear more submitters on the Health and Safety in Employment Amendment Bill.

The committee presented its report on the 2000/01 financial review of the Civil Aviation Authority on 11 April. It can be viewed on the Office of the Clerk website.
