The Brain Drain Is Back
It is of great concern that the outflow of skilled New Zealanders has started again, ACT leader Richard Prebble said today in response to the March immigration figures.
"The figures show a net loss of 262 skilled New Zealanders during March. This loss of skilled Kiwis over the long term is the most serious problem facing the nation," Mr Prebble said.
"Claims by government Ministers that the Brain Drain has reversed, have now been shown to be wrong.
"To reverse the Brain Drain, we need a fundamental change in government policies. A two percent growth rate and innovation by government committee won't do it.
"We need lower taxes than Australia and a better business environment by cutting out red tape and compliance costs.
"I get no pleasure from the fact that I accurately predicted the migration figures would turn around in March," Mr Prebble said.
