Grubby Electoral Deal By Clark And Harre

Prime Minister Helen Clark and Alliance Leader Laila Harre are colluding to breach the principle of the Electoral Integrity Act, National Shadow Leader of the House Gerry Brownlee said today.

"Laila Harre is the legitimate leader of the Alliance Party that the Electoral Commission recognised at the last election.

"The expulsion of Jim Anderton and his five followers from the Alliance means they have no legitimacy in claiming that brand in Parliament.

"Laila Harre is morally bound to adhere to the Electoral Integrity Act and advise the Speaker of the House that these members are no longer members of the Alliance and their seats in Parliament should be declared vacant.

"Her failure to do this makes her complicit in what can only be described as electoral fraud designed to keep the Government in office. Helen Clark is colluding to breach the Act by allowing Jim Anderton, who has no party, to continue as Deputy Prime Minister.

"If Laila Harre was a real leader she would show the integrity Alliance campaigned on and adhere to the Act. She isn't doing this because she wants to cosy up to Helen Clark.

"New Zealanders realise it is an absolute joke that Jim Anderton is kicked out of his party but is still Deputy Prime Minister. It shows a lack of integrity by the Prime Minister and her Government," Mr Brownlee said.
