Support For Four Weeks Leave Welcomed

Green Employment Spokesperson Sue Bradford today welcomed support from the Alliance for the Green policy of four weeks annual leave for workers.

"At the last election the Greens publicly called for a commission to look at increasing annual leave and the possibility of a shorter working week," said Ms Bradford.

"The Greens have always supported four weeks annual leave and we welcome recent comments from the Alliance that they share that goal."

Ms Bradford said she personally believed a 35 hour working week, such has been successfully introduced in France, could be implemented in New Zealand.

"The Greens have been concerned that following the death of the 40 hour week people are working longer and longer and are spending less and less time with children and families.

"We welcome Alliance support for a better deal for workers and hope they will join us in looking at some other ways in which we can start to address the imbalance that continues to grow between work time and family time," said Ms Bradford.

"Such a move is long overdue and has never been needed more."
