President of Court of Appeal announced
The Attorney-General Hon Margaret Wilson today announced the appointment of the Rt Hon Thomas Munro Gault DCNZM as President of the Court of Appeal.
Justice Gault takes over from Sir Ivor Richardson who retired from the position earlier this month.
Margaret Wilson said Justice Gault is a distinguished member of the judiciary who has the necessary experience and skills to provide leadership to the Court of Appeal.
He is currently the most senior judge of the Court of Appeal having been appointed in 1991.
Justice Gault graduated from Wellington’s Victoria University and practised with AJ Park and Son and the firm of Ennis, Callander and Gault. He went into practice as a Barrister sole in 1981 and was appointed a Queen’s Counsel in 1984.
He was a Judge of the High Court from 1987 until 1991.
Justice Gault takes up his appointment on May 24.
