Cabinet Should Make Special Appropriation

Cabinet Should Make Special Appropriation To Police For Killer’s Dragnet

New Zealand First Law and Order and Police Spokesperson Ron Mark believes that the case of the serial shop killer in Auckland requires an immediate appropriation from the Government’s contingency fund to Auckland Police in order to mount a dragnet to catch the killer.

Auckland Police are trying to catch a man they believe is responsible for killing both a pizza shop clerk last week and a bank employee yesterday.

“This case requires a full mobilisation of not only Auckland’s police resources but also the national police force. The resources of the Auckland police are already stretched and they simply would not be able to devote enough resources to their other duties,” said Mr Mark.

“There is also a case to be made for mobilising the logistic capabilities and manpower of the army in order that the police do not have to divert other activities’ resources. In the United States in cases as urgent as this they mobilise the National Guard.

“This meets the criteria for an emergency appropriation. We have on our hands a very dangerous killer who obviously feels no remorse for his victims and has boldly killed twice in a week—both murders in a rather vicious and cold blooded manner.

“I notice that at least once a day the Government is announcing new spending for its new schemes. They seem to be flush with cash, so they should be able to find enough to pay for this dragnet. I’m sure there would be non-partisan support for this measure,” concluded Mr Mark.
