Sexual Violence Not Needed In Our Society – Peter Brown

New Zealand First MP and campaigner for improved censorship standards Peter Brown has secured a meeting with the Minister of Internal Affairs, Hon George Hawkins next week to seek the removal of the present censor, on the grounds that he has failed dismally to uphold the required standards of decency on behalf of the community.

“Given Mr Hawkins past as a mayoral representative of a large city, I am certain he will be aware of the dangers to communities posed by the unchecked dissemination of unadulterated violence, sex and wanton destruction, which has become the hallmark of the current censor’s approvals in recent times. I am confident Mr Hawkins will share much of my concern,” Mr Brown suggested.

“It is my intention to place a firm check on the film censor and to ensure the office does not simply rubber stamp every bit of pornographic or violent rubbish that comes across their desk. If people operate on a diet of junk food it is accepted that bodies will suffer. More so, if some people’s minds are fed a diet of sexual violence and obscenities, we will all suffer the outcome. Recent events involving violence and death coupled with the rise in sex offences have reinforced my resolve to leave no stone unturned, including having the chief censor replaced”, concluded Mr Brown.
