Release reports on Maori TV

It is time for the Government to come clean and release all reports on the Maori Television Service, says National's Broadcasting spokesperson Katherine Rich.

"It was revealed today that in addition to being paid $20,000 in salary, Davy has also received a $35,328 advance from MTS to purchase a vehicle and set up a home. This only adds a further salt to the public wound created by this debacle.

"The Government and Board should admit that there is absolutely no chance of taxpayers getting this money back.

"The Government is sitting on the Ernst and Young report, which it received earlier this week, as well as State Services Commission and Treasury reports on Millennium People. It is time to stop the delays and release the reports now for public scrutiny.

"The key questions aren't complex. The New Zealand public wants answers on who authorised payments of $55,000, who skipped the credit and security checks, how a fraudster like John Davy could be appointed to such an important job, and who was responsible for hiring him.

"Perhaps Michael Cullen is sitting on the reports because it's clear that Millennium People Ltd aren't the "bunch of amateurs" he said they were, and the only amateurs are from the Board and Te Puni Kokiri.

"Taxpayers are understandably fed up with this mess. They deserve answers on how millions of their dollars have been spent," said Ms Rich.
