MINISTER HAWKINS HAVING SECOND THOUGHTS ON CENSOR'S APPOINTMENT?

NZ FIRST ISN’T!

New Zealand First Deputy Leader, Peter Brown, is asking why Internal Affairs Minister George Hawkins is having second thoughts on keeping the Chief Censor in office.

“Minister Hawkins has requested that New Zealand First support the reappointment of the Chief Censor. This was despite the numerous letters, meetings, speeches and press releases from New Zealand First which spelt out the position very clearly,” said Mr Brown today.

“So, the New Zealand First Caucus has today decided to reaffirm our position.

“For Mr Hawkins benefit, our position is that we do not support the reappointment of the Chief Censor, now or ever. To my mind, he has acted irresponsibly and without regard for the public good and should in fact leave. His contract, which I understand expires in a few months, should not be renewed.

“I hope the Minister heeds our advice because some of the garbage the censor is approving is fuel for the deviants, perverts and weirdos of our society. If we really do want to do something about violent crime in our country we should stop feeding the brains of our low-life. The departure of the Censor and his replacement with a person with a better understanding of the effects of visual sexual violence and obscenities would be a positive move in the right direction.

“The Minister should therefore take our demand seriously---stop dithering. The man should go,” concluded Mr Brown.
