"Phil Goff is wrong again. His claim
that National cut police numbers by 500 is untrue," National
Police Spokesperson Tony Ryall said.
"Between 1996-99,
sworn Police numbers increased by 600 to then record
levels.
"What Mr Goff should be explaining is the shortage
of 120 frontline officers in Greater Auckland, and the 20%
increase in violent crime there over the past two
years.
"Then again, he may have been overseas when those
figures were announced," Mr Ryall said.
