Helen Clark Meddles with TVNZ

Tuesday 28 May 2002 Penny Webster Press Releases -- Broadcasting

Prime Minister Helen Clark's statement in an interview with express newspaper that she expects television programme Queer Nation to be aired earlier because of the Charter is disquieting, ACT Broadcasting Spokesman MP Penny Webster said today.

"Ms Clark expects the change "because the Charter requires TVNZ to reflect the diverse perceptions, nature, heritage, achievements of New Zealanders".

"This programme caters for a specific audience, and can hardly be seen to be mainstream. To suggest the use of the Charter in this way is scary, and exactly what ACT predicted," Mrs Webster said.
