Alliance leader Laila Harré has today released her list of top ten policies that the snap election interrupts.

“These are policies which could have been achieved in this Alliance-Labour Government and which might not happen if the Alliance is not back in the next government. They are only on the agenda because we’ve kept them there,” Ms Harré said.

“They are policies that I have been working hard for over the last two and a half years and that would have made a significant difference to a number of people’s lives.”

“They could have gone through in this term of Government. I just hope, for the sake of all the workers, children and young people, women and subcontractors who would have benefited from these policies, that the Alliance is back in Government after July 27th. The risk is that if we’re not there, there will be no-one strongly promoting these issues on their behalf.

Laila’s top ten are:

1. A commercial-free nationwide Youth Radio Network
2. Protecting workers’ pay, conditions and jobs when businesses are sold or contracted out.
3. Progress on pay equity
4. The Construction Contracts Bill which aims to protects subcontractors in the building industry
5. A new Holidays Act and four weeks annual leave
6. Enhanced redundancy protection for workers
7. Repeal of section 59 of the crimes act to protect children
8. A real plan to end child poverty
9. Abortion law reform
10. Re-introducing the training benefit for 16 and 17 year olds
