Greens Rail Against Progress

Monday 17 Jun 2002 Penny Webster Press Releases -- Transport

The top of the Green Party's list for coalition talks is getting rather crowded, ACT Transport Spokesman MP Penny Webster said today.

"GE was top of the list, but now the Greens want to blackmail the country over rail.

"Buying back rail is a backward step. Rod Donald already attempted to `save' passenger services - he failed because so few people take the train.

"What this country needs is better roads with passing lanes. Road improvements cost a fraction of the price of rail systems, which need a massive investment of taxpayer money for little return. The Greens are living in fairy land - it is scary they want to take the rest of us there with them," Mrs Webster said.
