Suspended Action A Step In The Right Direction

Education Minister Trevor Mallard today welcomed the announcement that the PPTA National Executive has decided to suspend rostering home action from tomorrow.

“It's a step in the right direction and I hope that a reasonable claim is tabled soon so that formal negotiations can resume," Trevor Mallard said.

“Over the weekend, I asked the PPTA to call off this week’s industrial action which was planned before they had tabled a new claim or set in place times for negotiation.

“The government wants to settle this dispute as soon as possible. We are extremely concerned about the educational effects the dispute is having. Following the events of late last week, I am also concerned about student welfare and safety.

“As stated previously, government negotiators are ready to negotiate at any time. They are currently waiting for the PPTA to table a claim,” Trevor Mallard said.
