ACT Deputy Leader Ken Shirley and local MP Gerry Eckhoff will join candidates, party members and business people in Queenstown to launch the ACT New Zealand campaign there on Tuesday 2 July.

"People in Queenstown are concerned with rising violent crime, high taxes, increasing waiting lists for hospital beds, and slipping standards in education.

"ACT has clear policies to reduce violent crime and restore justice through a Zero Tolerance approach and Truth in Sentencing. We pledge to give a tax cut to every New Zealand worker, and lower company tax below Australia's so we can compete internationally. We ACT says no patient should wait beyond the recommended safe time for treatment. Where a public hospital can't provide treatment within the acceptable time, then the patient should be provided with that surgery, treatment or service from the private sector. ACT believes in giving communities the power to pay good teachers more. We will empower schools with child-centred funding and the ability to be flexible.

"ACT has the fresh ideas this election," Mr Shirley said.

9.30 am Coffee and Politics session at Tatler's Restaurant, 5 The Mall, Queenstown. An opportunity to people to meet the MPs and chat informally about the issues in this election.

Daytime Visiting local businesses and meeting with Queenstown locals to discuss ACT policies for real change.

7.30 pm Public Meeting on ACT's positive proposals to address crime in the Queenstown Memorial Hall, Memorial Street Queenstown. Speakers ACT's Deputy Leader and police spokesman, Hon Ken Shirley MP and local representative Gerry Eckhoff MP.
