Goff Releases Misleading Crime Figures

The release of provisional crime figures by Justice Minister Phil Goff and Police Minister George Hawkins shows just how scared they are of the rise of violent crime in New Zealand, ACT Leader Richard Prebble said today.
"Rodney Hide has spoken today to police headquarters, and they tell him they never release the provisional figures because they are subject to so many caveats, and are subject to change.
"The official police figures are released publicly by the police twice a year. They are the official crime figures for New Zealand. These are not.
"Goff and Hawkins are trying to snow the voting public with shonky figures to try to allay the public's natural concern with the fact that violent crime is going through the roof in New Zealand.
The official figures show that violent crime has risen by 10.9 percent since Labour took office.
