Unseemly Seating Scramble: National And Act Refuse To Face Reality: Peters
The New Zealand First leader Winston Peters has accused the National and Act parties of refusing to face the consequences of their recent poor electoral performance.
“The insistence of these dinosaur parties that they should take the prime parliamentary seats bears no scrutiny. Act’s assertion that it is in some sort of coalition with National is pure whimsy whilst National’s undignified grab for the 27 best seats ignores the bath they were given by the electorate and confirms that its leadership remains firmly in first-past-the-post mode.
“It is time that the practical arrangements of Parliament reflected the proportionally representative electoral system that we have now had for three elections. It is time for National and Act to come into the twenty-first century,” Mr Peters said.
