Bollard's Appointment A Good Choice -- National
"National welcomes today's announcement that Alan Bollard is to be the new Reserve Bank Governor," says National Party Leader Bill English.
Mr English says Dr Bollard has an excellent understanding of the New Zealand economy and unquestionable integrity.
"However, Alan's appointment now leaves a very significant vacancy for Treasury Secretary.
"National will be ensuring that this important public sector role is not hijacked by the Government's increasing desire for political control over every aspect of Government.
"It is vital that the new Treasury Secretary appointee has a similar neutral and long-term view of good Government in New Zealand. Alan Bollard served different governments with distinction because he acted according to the best principles of civil service," Mr English says.
