Women are not scrubbers

Labour Deputy Leader Michael Cullen’s comments on women on the DPB are offensive and demeaning, says National MP Judith Collins.

“Michael Cullen claimed that I want all women on the DPB to become ‘scrubbers’. This is offensive and demeaning to women, especially those seeking employment. He is suggesting that all women in menial or first-time jobs are cleaners.

“Dr Cullen tries to be clever but comes across as offensive and a snob.

“His attitude is especially inappropriate given that Women’s Suffrage Day is celebrated this week,” said Ms Collins.
