"National has clearly re-opened its bid for nuclear status," said Matt Robson, former Disarmament Minister and Progressive MP.

"Wayne Mapp is being two-faced when he make his immoral call to cuddle up to the Weapons of Mass Destruction club.

“New Zealand cannot be part of the United Nations weapons inspection team to destroy weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, and at the same time try to be part of the club that continues with those same weapons of mass destruction.”

New Zealand has a hard-earned moral authority for its total opposition to nuclear weapons. In the New Agenda coalition of countries we hold a position of world leadership. We stand beside Ireland, South Africa, Brazil, Mexico, Egypt and Sweden, committed to the total eradication of nuclear weapons.

Wayne Mapp does not seem to have learnt from his colleagues’ mistakes. A simple phone call would have told him that both Max Bradford and Bill English stubbed their toes on the nuclear issue previously.
