Desecration Of Monument Disgusting Says Peters

New Zealand First Leader Rt Hon Winston Peters is concerned that the Cenotaph has become the latest camping ground for a group of Wellington hobos.

“It’s an appalling sight and an outrageous example of how politically correct and soft the Government and its agencies have become.

“This group of itinerants have set up a campsite which includes an open fire, blaring music and public alcohol consumption.

“Not only is it a desecration of an important monument but it also sits on a busy thoroughfare and is near the main entrance to Parliament.

“By mid-afternoon these people have drunk so much their behaviour becomes offensive. Young school girls from a local school walk past the site only to be met by a string of obscenities.

“Tourists also stop at the site and are often scared off by drunk and disorderly and obscene behaviour. Surely this type of offensive behaviour should be dealt with by the police? Do we have to wait until someone is attacked?

“This spectacle is an example of how the system is not working for these people. There must be some way, in our social welfare run state, to get these people off the street,” said Mr Peters.
