Government and Telecom to meet next week

Government and Telecom to meet next week

Communcations Minister Paul Swain said that last night’s meeting with Telecom over the issue of new connection charges was a productive one.

“At the meeting the government pointed out its strong concerns over the increased charges, particularly the affect they will have on those in isolated areas and on low incomes.

“This is an issue about access to basic telephone services and we reflected the feedback we have had from many people around the country.

“As a result of the meeting Telecom have agreed to go away and have another look at the issue.

“For our part we have given Telecom an assurance that the tendering process for the broadband project will be fair and above board.

“I will be reporting back to Cabinet on Monday on the outcome of the discussions and I will be meeting with Teelcom next week to progress the matter further.”
