What Took Government So Long To Fund Gifted Ed

What Took Government So Long To Fund Gifted Education?

New Zealand First is asking why the Government has taken so long to come up with some education funding for gifted and talented children.

“The policy work in this field was initiated by New Zealand First during its period in government during 1997-98,” said Education spokesperson, Brian Donnelly.

“Admittedly after the coalition broke down, Nick Smith, who became Minister of Education was opposed to putting anything in place to fill the glaring policy vacuum within our system.

“However, when this Government came to power in 1999, the work was well advanced.

“It is disgraceful that this Government has taken so long to come up with a small amount of funding for an area of critical need,” said Mr Donnelly.
