Resource Management Amendment Bill

Media Release

05 December 2002

Resource Management Amendment Bill

New Zealand First is calling for the Resource Management Amendment Bill to be withdrawn.

“The present bill is a mish-mash of 1990’s thinking,’ said Local Government spokesperson, Jim Peters.

The bill was introduced by the National Government then severely reduced in substance by the incoming Labour Government. Presently it lacks rational thought and does not address the impact of other Acts such as the Climate Change Act and the Local Government Bill.

“A decade after the original bill there needs to be an act that is more suited to current resource management.

“The bill needs to be withdrawn and rewritten after consultation with councils and interest groups. The reviewed bill should then go out for submissions.

“The present bill is totally inadequate,” concluded Mr Peters.
