Jim Anderton is
pleased to hear that Kiwibank has reached 100,000 customers
two years ahead of schedule.
“The policy of allowing New
Zealand Post to operate Kiwibank has been as successful as I
expected it would be. Already it is near break even.
“I
knew there would be a high level of support for the bank
from new Zealanders, and the business plan, which
anticipated 100,000 customers over three years seemed
achievable. But for the new bank to reach this target in
less than a year is stunning.
“The Kiwibank has allowed
New Zealand consumers more choice in their banking options,
particularly the opportunity to have a fully owned
nationwide New Zealand bank.”
“New Zealanders are able to
make up their own minds about where they will bank and I am
pleased many New Zealanders are making the most of this
opportunity.
“Strong competition in the New Zealand
banking sector helps to keep down interest rates and
provides more competition. That’s got to be good for every
New Zealander,” said Jim Anderton.
