“Constructive” Meeting With Family

“Constructive” Meeting With Family

Acting Corrections Minister Margaret Wilson yesterday met with the Hunt family.

The meeting was to discuss the family’s concerns that they were not informed about the release of one of the people involved with their brother’s death. The family also objected to the offender visiting relatives in the same street as several members of the family.

“The meeting was fruitful and there was a lot of constructive discussion around the issues the family had raised,” said Ms Wilson.

“I spoke directly to them and acknowledged that errors had been made in the way their case had been handled. The Department of Corrections has also acknowledged that errors were made in the handling of the letter of complaint.

“The discussion with the family emphasised that what is important from here is to go forward. To do that we will concentrate on what can be done to promote reconciliation between the family and the offender.”
