The two faces of Labour

The two faces of Labour

The National Party's accusing the Government of being two faced about transport funding.

"Labour's now in damage control mode, looking to woo Wellington, after voting to send the lion's share of new roading money north of the Bombay Hills," according to National Transport spokesman Roger Sowry.

"Labour MP's are meeting with Wellington region council officials today where they'll no doubt issue all sorts of assurances.

"But I'm warning the local councils not to believe the hype, especially when the Government agenda is already in black and white in the Land Transport Amendment Bill.

"Labour's also shot down plans for a Wellington by-pass after intensive lobbying from their buddies, the Greens.

"It's now critical the capital isn't further disadvantaged by MP's playing politics.

"If these MP's were serious about getting Wellington a fair deal, they'd vote against the Land Transport Amendment Bill - but you can be sure Mt Albert MP, Helen Clark, won't let them.

"The National Party supports a robust funding plan that will get our biggest cities moving again.

"New Zealand and Wellington don't need MP's acting like a door to door sales team flogging inferior product," Mr Sowry says.
