Prostitution Health Risks A Real Threat

New Zealand First is concerned about the health risks caused by prostitution and fears that more vulnerable young people will be attracted to the trade. Health spokesperson Pita Paraone says he is concerned that many young people without educational qualifications or work skills could see it as an easy way to make money – with potentially fatal results.

“It is absurd to start promoting legalised prostitution as a way of controlling sexually transmitted diseases. The same risks exist whatever the status of the industry.”

Mr Paraone said voting to legalise pimps was a sad state of affairs and an affront to most people.

“The truth is that these people will control the industry and their focus will be on quick profits – not the health of their workers and their clients.

“We should be striving to make New Zealand a better place for its citizens, not creating some South Pacific sex haven,” said Mr Paraone.
