Removal Of Asset Testing Shows Benefits Of Coalition Government

Progressive leader Jim Anderton has heralded the decision today of the Labour-Progressive government to progressively remove asset testing for people aged 65 and over in long-term residential care.

"This policy advance is a good example of the benefits to New Zealand of constructive coalition government,” said Jim Anderton.

The Progressives have promoted the comprehensive elimination of asset and income testing.

"By playing a constructive role inside the government over the past 3 years, we are now seeing part of our programme significantly implemented with this announcement. This supports our successes in promoting full employment and improving living standards for all," Jim Anderton said.

The Progressive Party will continue to campaign for the end of income testing for new Zealanders medically assessed as needing long term hospital care.
