Have National-ACT seen the light?

Have National-ACT seen the light in supporting partnership and active government now?

A series of releases from ACT and National recently calling on the government to work in partnership with the tourism industry and to put more money into biosecurity and welfare suggest they have seen the light on cooperation, constructive partnerships and active government, Matt Robson MP said today.

"I congratulate Pansy Wong for suggesting that the government support the tourism industry through the difficulties caused by the SARS problem.

"Investing in the tourism industry in not something we hear her talking about a lot but this government works in cooperative partnerships with industry to boost the economy and it works. Pansy Wong must have finally realised this and decided the government should indeed work cooperatively with business.

"I also have to congratulate Muriel Newman for realising that the best way to help the unemployed is to provide them with training, skills and support in gaining employment.

"Gerry Eckhoff also seems to have had a revelation that biosecurity needs government financing and that research and development work in technologies is important to our future. This government does believe in playing an active role in biosecurity and in research. Next time the government helps fund research projects I expect congratulations from Gerry Eckhoff.

"The Progressives of course have a clear plan to work in constructive partnership with industry and to raise revenue through full employment so that the government can play a strong role in education, health, infrastructure and the economy. I challenge ACT and National to let us know how they will fund these programs," Matt Robson said.
