Queen’s Counsel appointed

Maureen Southwick, Grant Illingworth, Philip Morgan and David Goddard have been appointed as Queen’s Counsel.

Maureen Southwick practices in Auckland and graduated from the University of Auckland. She was formerly a partner with Brookfields. She practices principally in the area of family law and is a fellow of the International Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, as well as serving on a number of other professional bodies. She has also presented papers at family law conferences and New Zealand Law Society seminars, and has published a number of articles in this area of the law.

Grant Illingworth practices in Auckland and graduated from the University of Auckland. While at university he was awarded the Fowlds Memorial Prize in Law, and is still an occasional guest lecturer. He practices in the area of public law and civil litigation, and is an active member of the Auckland District Law Society, the New Zealand Bar Association and the Arbitrators’ and Mediators’ Institute of New Zealand. He is a contributing author to Adams on Criminal Law and has published a number of articles and seminars.

Philip Morgan practices in Hamilton and graduated from the University of Auckland. He was a partner in the Hamilton Crown Solicitor’s firm Almao Kellaway, before going to the Bar to specialise in civil and criminal litigation.

David Goddard practices in Wellington and graduated from Victoria University of Wellington. He also studied at University College, Oxford, and was awarded the University College Prize in Law. He has taught law at Bristol University. He specialises in civil and commercial law, and is co-author of a number of books in this area, as well as being the author of numerous articles and seminars. He has represented the New Zealand Government at the Hague Conference on Private International Law, and at the UNCITRAL Working Group on Cross-Border Electronic Contracting.
