Property Owners Must Protect Their Rights

Tuesday 12 Aug 2003 Gerry Eckhoff Press Releases -- Rural

ACT New Zealand Rural Affairs Spokesman Gerry Eckhoff today called on New Zealand property owners to consider a new land march on Parliament, akin to that led by the great Dame Whina Cooper.

"The Labour Government is poised to deliver yet another devastating blow to all private property owners. The Reference Group, set up by Prime Minister Helen Clark and Rural Affairs Minister Jim Sutton, yesterday released an entirely predictable report that will guarantee further outrage by rural New Zealand, especially," Mr Eckhoff said.

"The Government, through the Department of Conservation, consistently denies access to areas of special ecological importance - yet Mr Sutton demands access to private land of similar importance to landowners.

"What is the point of buying and owning property if there is pressure to share it with the public? The Government is hell bent on redefining property rights to ensure some form of socialist control already entrenched by the Resource Management Act," Mr Eckhoff said.
